Swami Sanand’s death a murder, says his spiritual guru

  • | Thursday | 11th October, 2018

""We suspect that Swami Sanand was murdered," he said demanding postmortem of his body and a CBI probe into his death. "Swami Sanand, 86, had warned to give up drinking water from the first day of Navratra if his demands related to the Ganga were not fulfilled. The doctors at AIIMS were very supportive of my cause and my tapasya for conservation and rejuvenation of mother Ganga ji. On persuasion, I have agreed to accept potassium being administered to me both orally and 500 ml/day IV. Detailed tests and investigations revealed critical shortage of potassium in my blood (only 1.7 against minimum of 3.5) and initial set up of dehydration.

VARANASI: Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati , the spiritual guru of noted environment engineer Prof GD Agrawal aka Swami Gyanswaroop Sanand , who passed away in Haridwar on Thursday morning on the 112th day of his fast, has termed his death a "murder" and demanded a CBI probe to bring out the facts.Swami Sanand had been on fast since June 22 in Haridwar for the conservation and rejuvenation of the Ganga."How could he die all of a sudden when he himself wrote a letter to me in the morning describing his health condition," wondered Avimukteshwaranad , the chief disciple of Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati.Showing Swami Sanand’s hand written press release issued from AIIMS Haridwar on Thursday morning, the seer said, "How it could be possible that a man who was healthy while doing austerity for 111 days in his ashram, and who wrote a letter to press today in the morning, died after spending a night in the hospital?""We suspect that Swami Sanand was murdered," he said demanding postmortem of his body and a CBI probe into his death. As per his wish his body should be donated to Banaras Hindu University for study purpose for medical students," he added. The government could have saved his life by fulfilling his demands. His death would not deter the Ganga bhakta, and the Ganga movement would continue, he said.Former head of the department of civil and environmental engineering at IIT Kanpur and the first member-secretary of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Swami Sanand was considered to be the doyen of environmental engineers in India.Under Avimukteshwaranand’s guidance, he had embraced "sanyas" in Varanasi in 2011.Swami Sanand’s last hand written note before his death on Thursday, reads, "Yesterday (October 10, 2018) at around 1pm Haridwar administration forcibly lifted me from Matri Sadan and got me admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh. The doctors at AIIMS were very supportive of my cause and my tapasya for conservation and rejuvenation of mother Ganga ji. However, as a professional institution for medical treatment, they said they had only three options: (i) force feeding oral or nasal, (ii) forced IV, (iii) no hospitalization. Detailed tests and investigations revealed critical shortage of potassium in my blood (only 1.7 against minimum of 3.5) and initial set up of dehydration. On persuasion, I have agreed to accept potassium being administered to me both orally and 500 ml/day IV. I heartily thank AIIMS for their support to my cause and Tapasya."Swami Sanand, 86, had warned to give up drinking water from the first day of Navratra if his demands related to the Ganga were not fulfilled. Before going on fast, he had written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April saying that he would go on a fast-unto-death from the day of Ganga Dussehera (June 22) if all work on Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project on Alaknanda river, Phata-Byung Hydro Electric Project and Singoli Bhawati Hydro Electric Project on Mandakini river, the tributaries of Ganga, were not closed completely by then.
