VARANASI: A man allegedly stabbed her wife to death and later set himself afire at Judanpur village under Nagara police station area of UP's Ballia district on Tuesday. His mother-in-law also sustained burns when she tried to save him. Both of them were admitted to the Ballia district hospital for treatment.According to reports, Sandhya Devi was going to coaching class on her bicycle when her husband Manish Kumar caught her on the way and stabbed her brutally. She died on the spot. After that Manish, a resident of Kusahi village, went to his in-laws' house, where he poured petrol on his body and torched himself.When his mother-in-law Dulari Devi tried to save him, she also sustained burns. The local residents rushed to the place and extinguished the fire. They were taken to the district hospital, where condition of Manish was stated to be serious.Ballia SP Sriparna Gongulee said that Sandhya was married to Manish three years ago. She had complained to her parents that Manish used to torture her. For the last three months, she had been living with her parents and preparing for police service. Manish wanted to take her home, but she refused to go with him.The police recovered the knife and plastic bottle in which he carried petrol. The body was sent for postmortem.
