Cop faces action for removing ex-minister's name

On June 30, furniture trader Arvind Tiwari had lodged an FIR against Prajapati alleging that former minister had issued threats to get commission in a contract of sand mining. Kulkarni said the case was lodged on June 30 with Dashaswamedh police. SSP Anand Kulkarni has ordered a probe.

Varanasi: Inspector Dashaswamedh Balkrishna Shukla was suspended for excluding the name of jailed former UP minister Gayatri Prajapati in the case of threatening a local furniture trader for commission in a contract of sand mining, and his bid to change the course of investigation.SP city Dinesh Kumar Singh and CO Dashaswamedh have also come under scanner in this episode. SSP Anand Kulkarni has ordered a probe. Kulkarni said the case was lodged on June 30 with Dashaswamedh police. Procedure to get warrant B from court concerned was in progress to bring Prajapati here on police remand for interrogation, however, inspector Dashaswamedh, also the investigation officer of the case, excluded Prajapati's name during investigation despite the fact that following interrogation a chargesheet was going to be filed against him, the SSP said.When the matter came to the knowledge of CO Dashaswamedh he objected to it but avoided making senior officers aware about it, said Kulkarni. The case was not being monitored by the SP city but he also failed to make the seniors aware about these developments, said Kulkarni adding that order has been issued to probe the SP and the CO's role in the case. On looking into the matter personally, the SSP was made aware about exclusion of Prajapati's name from the chargesheet prepared by the Dashaswamedh police, by the trader.
