Mauritius PM to visit Ballia village, address public meeting

VARANASI: Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will visit the village of his ancestors in Rasra area of Ballia district on January 23, soon after attending the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) convention in Varanasi.He will also address a public meeting there during his visit. He interacted with the villagers and also showed the photographs of PM’s ancestors to them.During British rule, the Mauritian PM’s ancestors had moved to Mauritius as indentured migrants to work in sugar cane fields in 1873. A cultural programme will also be held on the occasion.Chief minister Yogi Adityanath is also expected to attend the programme.Earlier, in search of the lineage of the Mauritian PM, the high commissioner of Mauritius Jagishwar Goburdhun had visited Rasara twice in December. He has also inspected the site at Srinath Math, where the Mauritian PM will address the local community.According to the officials, about 1,000 schoolchildren will greet the visiting guest on the way from helipad to the meeting venue, for which arrangements are being made for them on both sides of the pathway.

The local administration is busy making all necessary arrangements in view of his visit.“We have received the programme of the expected visit of Mauritian PM to Rasara on January 23, for which all necessary arrangements are being made,” Ballia district magistrate Bhawani Singh Khangarot told TOI over phone on Wednesday.He said that the sites for a helipad and proposed meeting have been identified.
