Varanasi: BJP MLA from Bairia in Ballia district Surendra Singh on Wednesday compared newly appointed AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her brother AICC president Rahul Gandhi with ‘Surpanakha’ and ‘Ravana’, respectively, forcing local Congress activists to submit a complaint with the police.Downplaying Congress’s Priyanka card, Singh said: “Jab Ram-Ravan ka yudh hone wala tha tab Ravan ne pahle apni bahen Surpanakha ko bheja tha. Rahul ne Ravan ki terah apni bahan ko Surpanakha ki tarah utara hai (When the battle of Ram and Ravana was to begin, Ravana had sent his sister Surpanakha. Similarly, Rahul like Ravana also sent his sister like Surpanakha).” He also eulogized Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Lord Ram’.Singh dubbed the Congress as a ‘tuti hui nauka’ (broken boat) and said that it (Congress) won in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh due to SC/ST Act. “In the upcoming parliamentary elections, Rahul will be in the role of Ravana, while Modi in the role of Ram is already keeping India’s flag high in the world. Like Ravana, Rahul has fielded his sister in this battle and proved his inability to fight against Modi, who will no doubt again become the PM,” he added.Upset over his remarks, local Congress workers gave a complaint to the police demanding action against the MLA. Girish Kant Mishra of Congress Seva Dal submitted a complaint to Ballia Kotwali police, accusing Singh of passing malicious remarks against Rahul and Priyanka. He said that the BJP MLA is habitual of giving such statements.Ballia Kotwali police said a complaint against BJP MLA had been received from Congressmen and any further action will be taken after proper investigation. Ballia SP Devendra Nath Dubey said the matter will be looked into.Singh, who is known for making controversial remarks, had earlier called West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee ‘Surpanakha’. In another contentious statement, he had said that even Lord Ram could not curb rapes.
