Some weavers welcomed the budget for introducing pension scheme, while others dubbed it as just a poll stunt. I am happy that a pension scheme has been introduced for the unorganized sector that also includes weavers. For the first time, weavers along with other workers of unorganized sector have been provided with pension benefit. Regarding the pension scheme, he said, “It is nothing but a poll stunt.” However, Jamaluddin Ansari, a weaver of Kotwa area, completely differs from Farid. “The weavers got nothing as compared to farmers,” he said adding that weavers also need facilities and benefits like farmers.

VARANASI: Though the Interim Budget 2019-20 presented in the Parliament on Friday by the Union Minister for Finance , Corporate Affairs, Railways & Coal, Piyush Goyal proposes a major scheme for farmers and provides tax sops to middle class, it has no direct mention of weavers’ community announcing any package to the weavers , which constitute a major share in economy after farming sector. Some weavers welcomed the budget for introducing pension scheme, while others dubbed it as just a poll stunt. To provide pensionary benefits to labourers and workers in the unorganised sector a new Scheme - ‘Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan’ was announced by the minister, who claimed that within next five years it would be one of the largest pension schemes of the world. A sum of Rs 500 crore has been allocated for the scheme, and additional funds will be provided as needed.Though the budget is good for farmers and other sectors, the weaving sector has been neglected completely, said Farid Ahmed Ansari, a weaver in Ramapura locality. “The weavers got nothing as compared to farmers,” he said adding that weavers also need facilities and benefits like farmers. Regarding the pension scheme, he said, “It is nothing but a poll stunt.” However, Jamaluddin Ansari, a weaver of Kotwa area, completely differs from Farid. “It is a progressive budget that takes care of all sections of the society. I am happy that a pension scheme has been introduced for the unorganized sector that also includes weavers. The weavers have been getting special attention of the government for the promotion of weaving sector,” he said pointing out past initiatives for the wellbeing weavers like subsidy on Mudra loan and power supply.A master weaver from Hiramanpur village Dinesh Kumar Maurya also expressed his happiness over budget for the introduction of pension scheme. For the first time, weavers along with other workers of unorganized sector have been provided with pension benefit. It is a great initiative of the government, he said.
