Five-day fest ‘Spandan’ begins at BHU today

Varanasi: The five-day inter-faculty youth festival of Banaras Hindu University ‘Spandan’ will begin from Friday. Akhil Bhartiya Kavi Sammelan and a mushaira will be held after the closing ceremony on Amphitheatre ground on February 27. The theme of the cultural procession will be patriotism keeping in mind the Pulwama attack that took place recently. The fest will witness over 30 competitive events based on literature, dance, music and drama.Talking to reporters on Thursday, dean of students Prof Mahendra Kumar Singh said that the fest will start with the events of classical instrumental, group song, skit, mono acting, mime, expression, elocution and other fine art events.The cultural procession and the inauguration ceremony will be held at Amphitheatre ground on February 23. It will be followed by other events of music, theatre, literary and fine arts on the same day.The fest will witness a series of events including choreography, western vocal, classical music, short play, literary events, fine arts, folk/tribal dance, western group song, classical vocal and dance, short play, poetry, sketching and collage from different venues on the campus.Around 31 programmes will be held during the cultural event with about 20 groups of participants coming from different faculties and colleges to showcase their talent and mastership in respective events.
