Around noon on Saturday, a massive explosion took place inside the building causing it to collapse. Locals claimed that a large number of labourers were busy in weaving carpet when the explosion took place.The ADG said that rescue operations were on under the supervision of SP Bhadohi. The neighbouring building was also badly damaged.The sound of explosion created panic in the area, however, within a few minutes locals started bid to rescue the people buried under the debris. Chauri cops also reached the spot and alerted senior officials. VARANASI: An explosion in a carpet manufacturing unit in Chauri area of Bhadohi district here claimed at least 11 lives on Saturday afternoon.According to ADG Varanasi zone, PV Ram Shastri, three seriously injured persons have been rescued from the debris of the building which collapses due to the impact of the blast.A team of bomb disposal squad and forensic experts had been rushed to the incident site from Varanasi to ascertain the exact cause of explosion, he added.Sources said huge stock of explosives stored in the building for fireworks manufacturing might have caused the blast in which the building owner and his son were also killed.Most of of the deceased were weavers from West Bengal's Malda district.Reports stated that one Akhtar Ali used to run a carpet manufacturing unit in a building owned by him along the Varanasi-Bhadohi highway in Chauri area.
