Varanasi: With fountains, spacious waiting area, a cafetaria, food court and many other attractive features, the Manduadih railway station in Varanasi division of North Eastern Railway (NER) has got a complete makeover at the cost of Rs 36.79 crore after the opening of second entry point.With the renovated look, the premises can esily be mistaken with an airport.The work for turning the station into a world class station was started in July 2016. With the completion of this work, the station now has upgraded facilities and basic amenities with a more spacious waiting area, circulating area, a cafeteria, food court and waiting rooms. The newly-constructed building developed in a covered area of around 3,600 square-meter now also has an AC lounge, retiring rooms and dormitories.“The size of the building has been so taken care to meet the future requirements too. The development of the station has been done in tune with the local architectural and religious ethos,” said divisional railway manager SK Jha adding that the construction work was started in July 2016 to make it a world class station.Talking to reporters on Wednesday, he said that the entire two-storey building is a framed structure, and the façade has been covered with the combination of alco panels and toughened glass.He said that in the central passenger concourse of the building roofing has been done by galvalume sheeting which is self supporting due to arch action. The ventilation in the central passenger concourse has been taken care of by the provision of self propelled turbo ventilators. For lighting, transparent poly-carbonate sheets have been provided in the roofing. Wooden panelling with noise reduction qualities has been done in the reserved lounge not only to improve the aesthetics but also take into account the acoustics.He said that the entire area has been provided with rain water harvesting system. The ground water recharge is done through a pond which has a boulder lining. Earlier, this pond was in a very shabby state with waste dumped in it. Fountains have been installed in the pond for aeration and 100 feet high monumental flag has also been installed at the entry point.The number of plaforms at the station has also been increased to four. The station’s architecture reflects Kashi’s faith. Special lights have been used in the premises to give a wonderful appeal at night.
