Azamgarh fire toll rises to 7, FIR lodged

Varanasi: Toll in Sunday’s fire incident in Mukeriganj area of Azamgarh district rose to seven by Monday evening. Four persons were killed while 12 were injured.The deceased were identified as Khiladi Gupta, Upendra Yadav, Ramlakhan and Ram Milan. Later, Rampat Chauhan, Rakhi Gupta and Baby Gupta died during treatment. The DM said that two injured died in Azamgarh and one in Varanasi.ADM (finance and revenue) had been assigned to conduct a magisterial probe into the matter, said the DM. The gang had looted cash and valuables from a house in Molnapur village under Chaubeypur police station on March 10 night.

Condition of five out of nine injured persons admitted to Trauma Centre of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi and Azamgarh district hospital has been stated to be critical.On the order of SP Azamgarh Triveni Singh, the City Kotwali police lodged a named FIR against building owner Satiram alias Khiladi Gupta, who died of burn injuries, and his son Vijay Gupta under appropriate sections of explosive act for illegally stocking fireworks behind their shops. District magistrate Azamgarh Shivakant Dwivedi has also ordered a magisterial probe in the incident.On Sunday evening, a major fire broke out in Mukeriganj area after the illegally stocked crackers behind the shop of Khiladi Gupta caught fire during some welding work in his building. The SP said that the police have started investigation after lodging an FIR in this connection.Initial investigations revealed that Khiladi and his brothers, including Shambhunath Gupta, live in their parental buildings at Mukeriganj and run shops on ground floor of their houses. Only Shambhunath had the licence of fireworks trading. However, Khiladi, who owned a general merchant shop, had also stocked crackers in a huge quantity behind his shop illegally, said the officials.Two robbers nabbed: Two members of an inter-district gang of robbers were arrested in a joint action of crime branch and Chaubeypur police after they were trying to escape after opening fire on the police on Monday. The gang had looted cash and valuables from a house in Molnapur village under Chaubeypur police station on March 10 night.
