Lok Sabha Election 2019: Samajwadi Party fields ex-BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav against PM Narendra Modi in Varanasi

Tej Bahadur Yadav, former Border Security Force (BSF) constable who triggered uproar after he uploaded videos claiming that the bad quality of  food is being served to soldiers on social media, has earlier announced to contest independently against PM Modi in Varanasi.

There has been a lot of drama in  Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. In the latest development, Samajwadi Party has changed its candidate from this constituency and gave the ticket to Ex BSF constable Tej Bahadur Yadav. Earlier, SP`s Shalini Yadav had filed her nomination from Varanasi. Varanasi will go for polling on May 19.

Earlier there were widespread speculations of Priyanka Gandhi being fielded from Congress, which came to an end after the party officially announced Ajay Rai as its candidate from Varanasi.

Tej Bahadur Yadav, former Border Security Force (BSF) constable who triggered uproar after he uploaded videos claiming that the bad quality of  food is being served to soldiers on social media, has earlier announced to contest independently against PM Modi in Varanasi.

Tej Bahadur Yadav earlier said his motive was not to win or lose. "The government has failed the forces. PM Modi seeks votes in the name of jawans but has done nothing for them", he said

Tej Bahadur Yadav had posted four videos on Facebook in January 2017, complaining about the unpalatable food at his camp along the Indo-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir. Yadav had further alleged that the senior officials illegally sold off the food supplies meant for the troopers.

The videos triggered outrage across the nation, but the BSF dismissed his allegations. He was later sacked after a three-month-long proceeding at a summary court-martial held in Jammu and Kashmir`s Samba district.
