Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first speech in the new Parliament building, announced that the bill has been approved by the Union Cabinet. The bill, called the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, will only come into effect after the delimitation exercise, which means it cannot be implemented before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Once passed, the bill will increase the number of women members in Lok Sabha from 82 to 181.
