Man, who raped minor in Mum, arrested in Varanasi

Varanasi: In a joint action of UPSTF and crime branch of Mumbai police, rape accused Vishal Kanojia of Mirzapur was arrested from Varanasi on Saturday. Kanojia had been absconding after raping a 9-year-old girl in Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar police station area in Mumbai on November 14.According to STF, he was caught on the road leading to platform-9 of Varanasi junction under cantonment police limits here on Saturday morning.A mobile phone has been recovered from him. During investigation, it was discovered that Kanojia, a native of Baripur Bareni village in Kachhwa of Mirzapur district, was living in Mumbai with his father and brother. On November 14, he found a 9-year-old girl at a lonely place and raped her. Post committing the crime, Kanojia had been taking shelter at different places in Mirzapur and Varanasi.Acting on a tip-off, Mumbai cops contacted STF, after which he was arrested. Latee, the cops started process to take him to Mumbai on transit remand. The woman filed a complaint after Saurabh refused to marry her despite their close relationship. Both families were aware of their relationship, but the marriage did not materialize. The accused is currently at large, but the police are conducting investigations to apprehend him soon.
