Kathak expressions, tabla beats leave audience mesmerised

Tabla recital by Sanju Sahay had the audience in trance.Other performers were vocalist Konkona Bannerji, sitar recital by Gaurav Majumdar, tabla recital by Samar Saha, Anindo and Anubrat Chatterji and sarangi by Santosh Mishra. Varanasi: The penultimate night of Sankat Mochan music festival left the audience mesmerised till the dawn on Thursday.The fest commenced with kathak dance performance by energetic and youthful Kolkata-based danseuse Anurekha Ghosh, who performed with beautiful expressions. Her display of various 'ghoongat' forms was applauded by the audience, which went on till she presented dance on Tulsidas' bhajan 'Thumak chalat Ramchandra'. He presented alaap in raag kaushiki and was accompanied by Shubh Maharaj and Rishi Shankar on tabla and pakhawaj.Vocalist Ajay Chakravorty came next. She started with Ganesh Vandana on raag yaman, followed by performance on 'Gaayiye Ganpati Jagvandan, winning praises from one and all.

The danseuse was accompanied by Dinanath Mishra on tabla, Umesh Mishra on sarangi with vocal support by Koyal Bhattacharya.Santoor recital by Abhay Rustom Sapori, son of famous santoor player Bhajan Sapori, was the next to perform. He presented alaap in raag kaushiki and was accompanied by Shubh Maharaj and Rishi Shankar on tabla and pakhawaj.Vocalist Ajay Chakravorty came next. He presented a classic bandish and invoked Lord Hanuman with 'Man Jauwan de Ram', followed by popular thumri 'Ka karun sajni, aaye na baalam'. The accompaniment of Sanju Sahay on tabla and Dharmnath Mishra on harmonium added a different aura to the event before santoor player Tarun Bhattacharya took over the stage.
