Varanasi: Controlling crime through yoga is a new mantra of Varanasi police The police will be seen in a new role of yoga guru, holding regular yoga classes for rural people in the villages. By holding yoga chaupals in villages , they intend to revive community policing. The step is is aimed to establish good communication with people and also gathering intelligence and check crime."We are starting a week-long yoga training camp for policemen particularly the young recruits from April 24. Two constables from each police station will be trained by yoga expert and later they will train other police personnel in their respective police stations," SP (rural) Ashish Tiwari said while talking to TOI. These trained policemen will be assigned their beats to hold chaupals for yoga training to the villagers. There are about 1,000 villages in the district which will soon witness regular yoga classes in the afternoon. "We have already formed groups of villagers in about 65% villages for this purpose," said Tiwari, who believes that the initiative will build a people-friendly image of police. With this exercise, each policeman of his beat will be familiar with the villagers, besides developing a healthy atmosphere in the village.
