One held for objectionable post on social messaging app

VARANASI: A day after the local administration issued an order restricting people from posting misleading information or rumour on social media groups, the police arrested one person on Friday for his objectionable post and booked him under various sections of law.According to reports, the police found an objectionable message on WhatsApp posted by one Anuj Kumar Gupta, a resident of Bari Bazaar in Lohata area. The message that may cause communal tension and religious disharmony was sent to several groups.Lohata SO Jay Shyam Shukla said the man was arrested and booked under sections 295A of IPC and 66A of IT Act. His mobile phone was also seized.On Thursday, district magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and SSP Nitin Tiwari issued a joint order making it clear that any factually incorrect, rumour or misleading information on a social media group could result in an FIR against the group administrator. The order says that social media group administrators should be ready to bear the responsibility and ownership of the groups. The administrator must include only those members who are personally known to him or her.The group administrators are directed not only to remove the member if any statement is fake and can cause religious disharmony, or rumour. In the event of inaction from the group, he or she will be considered guilty and action will be taken against the group admintrator. Such a post must also be reported with the police so that action can be taken against the member under the law.
