Film on stroke awareness gifted to Nobel Museum

Varanasi: Stroke awareness film -'Phir Wahi Din' produced by the Neurology Department, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University was gifted to Nobel Museum Stockholm by BHU neurologist Dr. Vijay Nath Mishra on Sunday.Mishra, who recently went to Germany to take part in an international conference on neurology, gifted the film's DVD to the official of Nobel Museum. Due to the misconceptions and myths about the cause of stroke and delay in proper medical treatment lead to fatal condition. It emphasizes on the need of timely medical treatment in case of a stroke. The department has planned to organise screening of the film in 1000 villages in one year to create awareness among people. The first hour after the stroke is considered to be the Golden Hour by doctors.

According to him, the film, which was screened in Berlin and Stockholm on October 10 and 15 respectively, was highly appreciated for creating awareness and removing the myths associated with stroke.He said that in this 2.20-hour film it has been tried to remove the misconceptions about the disease prevailing among the masses particularly in rural areas. Due to the misconceptions and myths about the cause of stroke and delay in proper medical treatment lead to fatal condition. It emphasizes on the need of timely medical treatment in case of a stroke. The first hour after the stroke is considered to be the Golden Hour by doctors. But it is unfortunate this golden hour is often wasted by the patients' kin due to lack of awareness.He said that generally people in rural areas are ignorant of the fact that they should take the patients to a neurologists in case of stroke. Majority of people in states like UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattishgarh believe that the stroke was a kind of 'Hawa' not a neurological problem, he said. The department has planned to organise screening of the film in 1000 villages in one year to create awareness among people. The film was directed by NK Acharya.
