7-year-old Nigerian boy undergoes cardiac surgery at Ramesh Hospitals

GUNTUR: In what could be a major boost to the medical tourism in the state, city-based super specialty hospital–Ramesh Hospitals has successfully performed pediatric cardiac surgery on a 7-year-old Nigerian boy.Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Dr N Srinath Reddy , chief consultant pediatric cardiologist, said that–Nigerian boy, Adesina Chigozirim Bankole was born with ‘Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) with Aortic Valve Prolapse, Moderate Aortic Valve Regurgitation’. “After realising the fact that he cannot receive the right treatment in their country, his mother did an internet search to reach us through our website and would seek our appointment,” said Dr Reddy. He said they have performed VSD closure +Aortic valve repair surgeries under the lead of chief pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr R Benedict Raj. He said that they have performed more than 1200 pediatric cardiac procedures in the last 3 years after inaugurating Children’s Heart Institute. Ramesh Hospitals ' Managing Director and chief cardiologist Dr P Ramesh Babu said that ace pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr P Srinath Reddy, pediatric cardiologists Dr Jyothi Prakash Reddy, Dr Vasu Dev, senior pediatric cardiac surgeon, Dr R Benedict Raj; neonatologist– Dr Sahithi and pediatrician, Dr Anitha are available 24x7 in the Children’s Heart Institute.He said that medical tourism was confined to tier-1 mega cities like– Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai etc in the past. However, the situation is fast changing and there has been a paradigm shift to this scenario, as organisations like their hospitals are taking initiatives to cater to the International patients. He said meeting the global-level quality standards is vital to get the international patients. “We have filed our application to Joint Commission International (JCI) a body which certifies and and provides accreditation to hospitals that meet the standards of International Patient Care and awaiting an approval,” said Dr Ramesh. He said that receiving accreditation for quality of care and patient safety from NABH and NABL, and awards for patient centricity, innovation in healthcare and patient friendly hospital from Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Asian Hospital Management (AHM) & Association of Healthcare Providers (India) (AHPI) respectively add credibility to Ramesh Hospitals.He said such awards would play a role in the decision making process of a potential medical tourist. He said that they were happy that they could contribute to the state’s growth in the fields of healthcare and medical tourism.
