Delicate cardiac surgery performed

A 40-year-old Nigerian, whose seven-year-old child, was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart disease, has come all the way to Guntur where senior paediatric cardiac surgeons at Ramesh Hospitals have successfully performed a coronary bypass surgery. Bankole Assumpta Uluamma, whose seven-year-old son was operated successfully at Ramesh Hospitals, Guntur, shares her experiences with the media in Guntur on Tuesday. A team of doctors, led by chief paediatric cardiac surgeon R. Benedict Raj and chief paediatric cardiologist Srinath Reddy, performed the surgeries on February 6. An internet search helped them to zero in on Ramesh Hospitals and after seeking an appointment, Ms. Uluamma flew down here with her son. Bankole Assumpta Uluamma, whose son Adesina Chigozirim Bankole, was born with a congenital heart condition -- ‘Ventricular septal defect (VSD) with aortic valve prolapse, moderate aortic valve regurgitation.’ Doctors in Nigeria treating the boy suggested a surgery. As the family cannot afford it in USA or Europe, they decided to travel to India. An internet search helped them to zero in on Ramesh Hospitals and after seeking an appointment, Ms. Uluamma flew down here with her son. A team of doctors, led by chief paediatric cardiac surgeon R. Benedict Raj and chief paediatric cardiologist Srinath Reddy, performed the surgeries on February 6. “I should thank the staff at the hospital. They were so supportive in getting all the documentation done and I am happy with the facilities here,’’ Ms. Uluamma told the media on Tuesday. Dr. Ramesh Babu also spoke.
