Anganwadi workers demand salary dues

Red march: Anganwadi workers hit the road seeking solutions to their problems, in Vijayawada on Monday. K. Subbaravamma, State secretary, said that Anganwadi, Asha workers, mid-day meal employees and Health Department workers were working as scheme employees without getting the status of regular employees and the attendant benefits. While the neighbouring Telangana increased the salaries of the Anganwadi employees to ?10,000, the Andhra Pradesh government was yet to react, she remarked. Hundreds of members of the Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union from all over the State took part in a rally from the railway station to Dharna Chowk here as part of ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ agitation on Monday. At least, the government should pay the pending salaries to the employees and improve the working conditions, she said.

Representatives of several political parties visited Dharna Chowk and offered their support.
