This is where the Central Wakf Council’s intervention was sought to protect the said properties. They said there were instances of governments themselves taking over the properties belonging to the Wakf Boards in an arbitrary manner. Central Wakf Council member Rais Khan Pathan and BMM A.P. Irfan Ahmad and S. Munawari Begum said there were 14,500 institutions and about 65,000 acres of land under the purview of the Andhra Pradesh Wakf Board (APWB) but some of them encroached. Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Mr. Ahmad said a fresh survey was being conducted with the help of Global Positioning System (GPS) under the Wakf Management System of India (WAMSI) to pinpoint the grabbed properties to approach the courts for reclaiming the same.
