“We have done priorities projects at a larger level. Over 700 ideas in total were suggested during these consultations with over 220 experts. “The solutions are similar to what we see in many countries. We will present the best short-listed ideas to the chief minister (N Chandrababu Naidu). We worked closely with Bangladesh, where the government implemented some of our ideas.

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh will benefit more from solutions which focus on maximum cost benefit for each rupee, said Nobel Prize-winning economist Prof Finn E Kydland and Bjorn Lomborg, president of Copenhagen Consensus Center, on Tuesday.During an exclusive chat with TOI, Finn E Kydland, co-recipient of 2004 Nobel Prize in economics, said many economic solutions, which he has seen in countries like Bangladesh and many South Asian countries, are comparable and applicable to AP . Kydland is in Vijayawada as part of an eminent panel, which will scrutinise the best of 77 ideas which can give better solutions and maximum benefit for every rupee invested. The ideas are being scrutinised in collaboration with Tata Trusts and Copenhagen Consensus, a think-tank forum that explores solutions for various concerns in health, environment, transport etc. “The solutions are similar to what we see in many countries. As economists, we don’t suggest ideas to one particular group or the other but as part of these cost-effective conscious ideas, the least fortunate in the society will benefit,” he said.Kydland said though he didn’t had the opportunity to study the states and country’s economy, his association with AP priorities projects may continue.Lomborg, president of Copenhagen Consensus, said distribution of economy or welfare measures are a political decision everywhere but as economists, they try to come up with productive solutions for minimum investment. “We have done priorities projects at a larger level. We worked closely with Bangladesh, where the government implemented some of our ideas. We are working in Haiti and in India, the Rajasthan government has also implemented some of our ideas,” he informed, adding that they will soon start working with Niti Aayog on many sectors.According to Lomborg, evolving such kind of ideas will be a big help for the government as most part of the investment for addressing the issues come from there. It will also will be beneficial to the corporate social responsibility (CSR) sector where the companies look for maximum benefit for the cost they incur for smart inventions.“We feel our work does not stop by just suggesting smart ideas, but we would also like to get involved in their implementation. We will present the best short-listed ideas to the chief minister (N Chandrababu Naidu). If the government desires, we will participate in the implementation of the ideas,” he added.A total of 18 sector expert consultations have been held as part of the Andhra Pradesh Priorities Project, in Vijayawada, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad in the past one year. Over 700 ideas in total were suggested during these consultations with over 220 experts.
