Most Vijayawada schools remain shut for scorching heat

Some private schools are continuing with full-day classes, while some others are running half day classes. The officials of the education department are not taking any action against it,” said Progressive Democratic Students Union president, A. Ravi Chandra. Kids are getting dehydrated and a big thanks to the government for announcing holidays for schools,” said Vangina Anitha, a parent.

VIJAYAWADA: Government-run schools in the city remained closed on Tuesday due to scorching heatwaves across the state following the directions given by the education department. Most of the private schools were also shut in keeping with the oral instruction from the education minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao. Parents argued with school management which denied to give holidays for kids till June 21, 2018.Parents thanked the government for declaring holidays for the schools as mercury touched the mark of 41 degrees in the city on Tuesday. “Vijayawada is witnessing summer-like conditions even after the entry of monsoon season. Kids are getting dehydrated and a big thanks to the government for announcing holidays for schools,” said Vangina Anitha, a parent. Municipal schools in the city got closed with the instructions of the education department and school teachers sent students back to their homes on Tuesday.Despite education ministers directions, a few private and corporate school management reportedly conducted classes on Tuesday. “ Corporate school managements are much more concerned about collecting fees and taking admissions than the healths of their students. Some private schools are continuing with full-day classes, while some others are running half day classes. The officials of the education department are not taking any action against it,” said Progressive Democratic Students Union president, A. Ravi Chandra. Officials of education department requested school managements to declare holidays till Friday.
