Lok Sabha Speaker accepts resignations of YSR Congress MPs

VIJAYAWADA: The much-awaited decision had finally come from Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday accepting the resignations of the five YSR Congress MPs. The Lok Sabha Speakers office released the bulletin accepting the resignations with effect from June 20, 2014. We will go to the people telling our sacrifice and exposing the TDP’s game,” Varaprasada Rao asserted. As the resignations were accepted on June 20 and the present term of the Lok Sabha is now less than one year, there is unlikely of by-elections to these seats. However, the Speaker kept the resignations in abayance and sought reconfirmation letters from them on June 6.

The Lok Sabha Speakers office released the bulletin accepting the resignations with effect from June 20, 2014. As the resignations were accepted on June 20 and the present term of the Lok Sabha is now less than one year, there is unlikely of by-elections to these seats. However, the Election Commission will take a call on the issue, once the Speaker’s office sends information about the vacancy of the seats.The Lok Sabha accepted the resignations of Y V Subba Reddy from Ongole, Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy from Nellore , V Varaprasada Rao from Tirupati, P V Midhun Reddy from Rajampet and Y S Avinash Reddy from Kadapa The MPs have submitted their resignations on April 6, the last day of the budget session in protest against the denial of special category status to the State. However, the Speaker kept the resignations in abayance and sought reconfirmation letters from them on June 6. The Speaker had held two rounds of meetings with the MPs and got their confirmations.Reacting to the Speaker accepting the resignations, Nellore MP Rajamohan Reddy welcomed the Speaker’s decision and asserted that the acceptance had proved the ruling TDP leaders wrong. “The TDP leaders have been accusing us of conspiracy and terming our resignations as drama. Now it is clear and people will understand who is playing the drama,” Rajamohan Reddy said.Tirupati MP Varaprasada Rao asserted that they are prepared for by-election. “We have been fighting for the special category status with commitment unlike the TDP which had changed its stand on the issue several times. We will go to the people telling our sacrifice and exposing the TDP’s game,” Varaprasada Rao asserted.
