Eagle eye: The State government has agreed to sanction 20,000 cameras for the 13 districts. more-in Very soon, 3,000 surveillance cameras will scan every nook and corner of the city. They will help detect and prevent crimes and road accidents, the police said. According to the police, about 1,000 CC (closed circuit) cameras, including some Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras, have been installed after the pushkarams. Plans are on to install 2,000 more. Improved vigil The State government has agreed to sanction 20,000 cameras in the 13 districts. They would be arranged at major junctions and vantage points, said Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang. The AP Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013 makes it mandatory to install them at all cinema halls, hotels, cloth stores, malls, shops and other establishments.All the residents and the apartments associations have been requested to install good quality cameras, said Joint Commissioner of Police T.K. Rana. Awareness programmes “The apartments associations and residents of many colonies arranged about 2,500 cameras and the police are organising awareness programmes,” Mr. Sawang said. Many robberies, snatchings and other cases have been detected with the help of CCTV footage in the recent past. “The gold heist in Governorpet, the arrest of the Haryana gang, the recovery of ?25 lakh of a bullion trader and the girl missing case at Durga temple were among them. So were cases of rash and negligent driving,” he said.Ghajarao Bhupal, DCP, said the Station House Officers were instructed to make people aware.
