Former Andhra CM Kirankumar Reddy to join Congress on Friday

VIJAYAWADA: Former chief minister N Kirankumar Reddy is likely to join the Congress party on Friday in the presence of AICC president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.Kirankumar Reddy had left Hyderabad and reached the national capital on Thursday evening. Chandy had given an open call to the former party leaders to return. He had even met Reddy a couple of days ago.The party is also looking at the return of its former leaders Konatala Ramakrshna from Uttarandhra and G V Harsha Kumar from the Godavari districts. He would join AICC general secretary Oommen Chandy and APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy and would meet Rahul Gandhi.Reddy, who succeeded K Rosaiah as chief minster of the united Andhra Pradesh , left the Congress in 2014 in protest against the bifurcation of the state. It is surprising to see that none of these leaders is with him as he returns to the party.The AP Congress leaders, particularly after Oommen Chandy took over the state affairs, are knocking at the doors of its former leaders.

He would join AICC general secretary Oommen Chandy and APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy and would meet Rahul Gandhi.Reddy, who succeeded K Rosaiah as chief minster of the united Andhra Pradesh , left the Congress in 2014 in protest against the bifurcation of the state. He fought against the bifurcation both in the assembly and outside. He was instrumental in the Samaikyandhra movement led by APNGOs Association president P Ashok Babu against the bifurcation.However, after the AP Reorganisation Act 2014 was passed in Parliament, Kirankumar Reddy quit the party and floated Jai Samaikyandhra Party and contested the elections. However, the party candidates lost deposits in the elections.He led the core team of Congress leaders like Lagadapati Rajagopal, Sabbam Hari, Undavalli Arun Kumar, G V Harsha Kumar, who were all then MPs, in the fight against the bifurcation.While Arun Kumar, Rajagopal and Hari stayed away from him, Harsha Kumar sailed with Reddy during the elections.
