Andhra AIIMS will be ready by January 2019: JP Nadda

GUNTUR: Union health minister Jagath Prakash Nadda has said that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri will be brought into operation by January, 2019. “AIIMS, Mangalagiri is going to bring in sea-change as far as healthcare services in the state are concerned. He said that Centre would be spending Rs 1,618 crore on AIIMS to provide best medical services to the people of the state. He said for now, the AIIMS makeshift campus would be located in Siddartha Medical College, Vijayawada Nadda said that budget allocation to the AIIMS, Mangalagiri was the highest among the 16 AIIMS coming up across the country. Nadda said that AIIMS was a precious and valuable gift of the Centre to the people of Andhra Pradesh Nadda inspected the ongoing work of AIIMS on Friday and reviewed the progress with the senior officials of the state and Centre.

He said that they were marching ahead of time to complete the work of the prestigious healthcare institute much ahead of the deadline. Nadda said that AIIMS was a precious and valuable gift of the Centre to the people of Andhra Pradesh Nadda inspected the ongoing work of AIIMS on Friday and reviewed the progress with the senior officials of the state and Centre. Principal secretary (health) Poonam Malakondaiah, former health minister of state, Dr Kamineni Srinivas of BJP, social welfare minister Nakka Anand Babu, AIIMS deputy director Shramadeep Sinha, district collector Kona Sasidhar and others were present at the review.Speaking to the media after the review, minister said that they had advanced the deadline to complete the first-phase of the project by two months, following the directives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “This project has been listed in the Prime Minister’s top priority infrastructure projects of the country and he wants it complete as early as possible to bring its services available to the people,” explained Nadda. As a result, they had decided to launch the out-patient wing in January, 2019 instead of the original deadline of March.He said that they had already started recruitment of faculty to the top-class healthcare institute and the first batch of classes of the medical college attached to the AIIMS would be launched from August. He said for now, the AIIMS makeshift campus would be located in Siddartha Medical College, Vijayawada Nadda said that budget allocation to the AIIMS, Mangalagiri was the highest among the 16 AIIMS coming up across the country. He said that Centre would be spending Rs 1,618 crore on AIIMS to provide best medical services to the people of the state. “AIIMS, Mangalagiri is going to bring in sea-change as far as healthcare services in the state are concerned. We are going to make it one of the premier institutes in the country,” promised Nadda.He said that they would complete the entire project by 2020 after which the medical college would also be shifted to the permanent buildings in the campus. He expressed satisfaction about the progress of the works.
