Vijayawada: Guntur MP Galla Jayadev emerged as TDP’s poster boy during the no-confidence motion debate in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Jayadev, who started the debate, put up a strong cause for Andhra Pradesh and launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the war is now between the people of AP and Modi.Strongly pitching for grant of special category status (SCS) and other pending issues pertaining to the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014, he spoke for close to an hour. “People are tired of empty assurances and unfulfilled commitments. The plight of Andhra Pradesh during the Modi-Shah regime is just that, a saga of empty promises and unfulfilled commitments,” he said.Jayadev started his speech by invoking the theme of Telugu blockbuster and Mahesh Babu-starrer Bharat Ane Nenu (Babu is also Jayadev’s brother-in-law). “The film’s message is living up to the trust of the people. The TDP moved the no-confidence motion as there is lack of fairness, lack of trust, lack of priority, and lack of an unbiased approach by the government at the Centre,” he said.Raising the issues connected with the state, Jayadev said post bifurcation, “AP is the new state with old name while Telangana is old state with new name”. Rebutting the argument of finance minister Arun Jaitley that the 14th Finance Commission has not made any distinction between special category status states and other states, Jayadev asked why can’t it be applied in retrospective manner.“The Congress party in 2014 sliced ‘Telugu Talli’ into two pieces in a crude, unscientific and irrational way. Modi had then said, ‘Congress killed the mother and saved the child. Had I been there, I would have saved the mother too.’ Now the Prime Minister has forgotten all that,” he said.Jayadev also lambasted the Union government for giving only Rs 3,900 crore instead of Rs 16,500 crore, and Rs 2,500 crore for the new capital when Amaravati requires Rs 43,000 crore. “While more than Rs 6,000 crore is sanctioned for statues of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Shivaji Maharaj, Amaravati gets only Rs 2,500 crore,” he said.Jayadev also alleged that the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) is acting with vengeance and obstructed the release of Rs 350 crore for development of backward areas in the state. “Backward areas like Bundelkhand received Rs 4,500 per head, whereas AP got only Rs 415 per head as part of the package,” he stated.
