Vijayawada: Incessant rains paralysed Krishna district on Sunday with a flood-like situation prevailing in many places.After a brief hiatus of about a week, torrential rains started lashing Krishna district and other coastal regions in the state as the southwest monsoon picked up pace. Officials said the heavy rains will continue for the next two days.Interestingly, though rains have been lashing Vijayawada, the monsoon continued to remain in the deficit by around 19 to 28% less than normal. The remaining 28 mandals received normal rainfall. The district average rainfall stood at 47.2 mm. Apart from Vijayawada Urban and Rural mandal, Ibrahimpatnam and Jaggaiahpet too received deficient rainfall. However, it did not stop the roads from getting quickly inundated.Electricity supply was also affected at various suburbs of Vijayawada, with even the railway station not being spared. Passengers faced a hard time with all the information display screens losing power and had to rely only on loudspeaker announcements from 2 to 4 pm. The Nandigama fire station was completely inundated due to torrential rains.On the bright side, farmers got respite as their saplings received sufficient rainfall to last for at least two weeks. Highest rainfall was witnessed across Vissannapeta mandal at 112 mm.
