Officials redfaced as roof leaks in Andhra secretariat

GUNTUR: The administration of Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) was left red-faced when rain water found its way into the chambers of Secretariat at Velagapudi on Monday. Flooding of Kottella Vaagu is also worrying senior officials as the flood is expected to reach Secretariat at Velagapudi if rains continues for another 24 hours. Roads connecting several villages in Tadikonda, Mangalagiri, Amaravati, Tadepalle and Bapatla mandals were submerged because of heavy flooding of local streams. The water entered into the patios of HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and industries minister N Amaranath Reddy in block-IV of the Secretariat. Suspecting the role of opposition, Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Sivaprasada Rao had handed over the probe to CID.

The staff were shocked when part of false ceiling fell. They initially feared that the slab was giving way due to heavy rain.The employees are irked at the frequent leakage of rain water into the prestigious structures of Interim Government Complex (IGC), which is affecting their work.CRDA authorities deputed senior officials to the Secretariat, and took up immediate repairs. The water entered into the patios of HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and industries minister N Amaranath Reddy in block-IV of the Secretariat. Although, there was no big damage, the incident has come as a big embarrassment to the government as it spent close to 10,000 per sq ft to construct the IGC.Last year, there was huge rain water leak into opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s chamber in the Assembly building only last year. Suspecting the role of opposition, Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Sivaprasada Rao had handed over the probe to CID. Although there is no clarity as to what happened to the CID investigation, subsequent leakages in other chambers of IGC affected the image of the government.Meanwhile, normal life was paralysed in many parts of the district following heavy rains. Roads connecting several villages in Tadikonda, Mangalagiri, Amaravati, Tadepalle and Bapatla mandals were submerged because of heavy flooding of local streams. Rivulets and streams are overflowing into agriculture fields. In Bapatla mandal , the downpour has left farmers sleepless as their fields are completely marooned.Heavy flood in Kottella Vaagu, a local stream near Tadikonda, has cut off the road connection to several villages in the mandal. Flooding of Kottella Vaagu is also worrying senior officials as the flood is expected to reach Secretariat at Velagapudi if rains continues for another 24 hours.
