Crops drown as heavy rains pound AP

Three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed in Buttayagudem, Eluru, Baduguvanilanka and Eluru in West Godavari district. Another 1,664 hectares of horticulture crops were also inundated.In West Godavari district, 20 mandals were most affected, with 11,964 people being accommodated in relief camps. About 180 houses were badly damaged while 143 houses were partially damaged. Around 4,025 acres of paddy were inundated, along with 633 hectares of cotton. A report submitted by district collector B Lakshmikantham to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said paddy was the most affected crop.

Vijayawada: The state government has estimated that about 27,000 hectares of paddy crop have been inundated in Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts following several days of incessant rainfall.The actual scale of damage is expected to be higher, and it is estimated that over 1,500 houses have also been damaged in these districts.In East Godavari district, officials estimate that 19 mandals have been badly affected, in which 49 village were cut off from communication and 665 houses damaged. Around 4,025 acres of paddy were inundated, along with 633 hectares of cotton. Another 1,664 hectares of horticulture crops were also inundated.In West Godavari district, 20 mandals were most affected, with 11,964 people being accommodated in relief camps. About 180 houses were badly damaged while 143 houses were partially damaged. A total of 6,974 hectares of paddy crop, 634 hectares of cotton crop and 200 hectares of horticulture crop were inundated.Several roads were badly damaged in Bhimavaram and Eluru.Srikakulam suffered the most, with 13, 935 hectares of paddy crop inundated and a total of 27 mandals impacted in the heavy rains.Krishna district also suffered badly, with over 3,200 hectares of paddy being inundated. A report submitted by district collector B Lakshmikantham to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said paddy was the most affected crop. Nandigama mandal witnessed the maximum crop damage in the district. A total of 98 houses were destroyed while 10 were partially damaged.In Guntur district, a road was damaged at Sattanepalli.The government deployed about nine State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, out of which five were deployed in East Godavari district, and four in Eluru in West Godavari district. About 220 SDRF members were on the field with the support of five boats, 205 life jackets, 12, chain saws, 20 ropes, and four satellite phones.Rescue operations were also undertaken by 118 AP fire services department personnel in East and Godavari districts.
