Andhra Pradesh: 12 irrigation projects ready for inauguration

VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu here on Monday said that the government had completed construction of 12 irrigation projects , which would be inaugurated and dedicated to the nation.Speaking to media persons, Chandrababu Naidu said that the state government had taken up 57 irrigation projects including Polavaram Project in 2014. The government had inaugurated 10 projects so far and 12 more are lined up for inauguration in September.The chief minister further said that there are three projects ready for inauguration in October, one in November, 8 in December and 11 projects in March next year. The country’s economy is badly hit,” Chandrababu Naidu said. These projects would make the State water-surplus, he said.The chief minister further said that the government had introduced micro irrigation facility for 7 lakh acres this year in addition to the existing 30 lakh acres.

The government would go for tenders in the next 45 days and start the work on these projects at the earliest, the chief minister said.The barrage across Krishna river at Vaikuntapuram to store 10 tmcft of water for Amaravati is one of the 12 new projects proposed by the government. These projects would make the State water-surplus, he said.The chief minister further said that the government had introduced micro irrigation facility for 7 lakh acres this year in addition to the existing 30 lakh acres. In the next 10 years, the government plans to extend the micro irrigation facility to 1 crore acres, the chief minister said and asserted that the initiative would help in quality utilization of the available water.Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on demonetization and price rise. He said that the government had completely failed to handle the demonetization by allowing Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denominations. The demonetization had benefited the rich and had failed to unearth the black money, he said.The chief minister alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bring friendly with the corrupt leaders including YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy at the cost of the nation. “The government had failed in implementing the digital currency. The bank frauds have increased after demonetization. The country’s economy is badly hit,” Chandrababu Naidu said.
