Lakshmi Parthasarathy on Saturday offered all support including a site for the establishment of a bonsai garden in the Sakhamuru biodiversity park to the newly established Amaravati Bonsai Society (ABS). Ms. Lakhsmi was speaking at the inaugural session the two-day exhibition of bonsai trees in the city. She said the government was developing the park in 300 acres in Sakhamuru of the capital region. “Fifty acres of it would be a reservoir. Already 25 acres was given to a private firm under public-private partnership and all kinds of gardens and plants that have religious importance are also being grown,” she said. “Since bonsai trees need protection and care, the glass house coming up in Sakhamuru will be an ideal place to host the garden. We are ready to offer any site [for the bonsai society],” Ms. Lakshmi said calling upon the society to lend its expertise to the corporation. Commissioner J. Nivas also extended support to the society and underlined the need for such exhibitions that create awareness among the public. The exhibition featured over 100 trees raised by the members of the ABS. A 30-year-old Shammi, 28-year-old Bougainvillea, a 22-year-old banyan tree, a 20-year-old Fera lonia lucida and an 18-year-old Brazilian rain tree are among the bonsais on display. Swachh Andhra Corporation executive vice-chairman C.L. Venkata Rao, Minister D. Umamaheswara Rao’s wife D. Anupama, Society president Amrita Kumar and others were present. Bonsai masters Hemanth Shah and G. Madhusudan Reddy conducted a training session for enthusiasts who turned up at the free training session. The exhibition will end on Sunday.
