The assigned and island farmers came out after repeated appeals to the government to render justice for them, Mr. Babu Rao alleged and demanded the release of farmers and leaders unconditionally. Leaders of the CPI (M) condemned the arrest of assigned land farmers and the ryots cultivating the pockets in island villages, at Mandadam village, in Guntur district, on Monday. Police took the farmers, along with some party leaders into custody, and shifted them to the Thullur police station.

The farmers tried to proceed to the Assembly and stage a protest demanding that the government give compensation on a par with other farmers and pay ?9,000 social security pension. Police took the farmers, along with some party leaders into custody, and shifted them to the Thullur police station. CPI (M) central committee member V. Srinivas Rao, State secretariat member Jelly Wilson, Jana Sena Party State convenor Ch. Parthsarathy, Rajadhani Prantha Rythu and Coolie Sangham convenor Anumolu Gandhi, YSRCP SC Cell leader Sandeep, CPI area secretary B.V. Raju, and Assigned Rythu Hakkula Porata Vedika convenor Francis were among those taken into custody, the leaders said. Party State secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao alleged that the government deployed police forces in villages and prevented ryots from coming out of their houses since Sunday. The assigned and island farmers came out after repeated appeals to the government to render justice for them, Mr. Babu Rao alleged and demanded the release of farmers and leaders unconditionally.
