GUNTUR: Legendary poet Gurram Jashuva’s literature will continue to ignite the society as long as caste dominance and caste discrimination dominated the society, observed former director general of police (DGP) and noted writer Chennuri Anjaneya Reddy. Addressing the gathering at Dalit literary festival here on Sunday, Reddy said that writers and poets should strive hard to build a caste-free society. “It is unfortunate that the society is dominated by certain castes and communities. The dominant castes always try to stifle the voices of the down-trodden communities. Only poets can raise voice against such forces,” said Reddy.He suggested the dalit writers to join hands with the progressive forces in their fight against the caste discrimination. He said that Gurram Jashava fought against such discriminations several decades ago and it would survive till the society becomes free from the caste discrimination.Padma Shri awardee and former vice-chancellor of SV University Dr Kolakaluri Inoch cautioned the dalit writers to be restrained in usage of their words in the literature. He said that mere experimenting with harsh words would not bring in change in the society. He asked the dalit writers to draw inspiration from the great poetry of Gurram Jashuva. “Our language, words and message in the literature should be more welcome and igniting than the writings of the non-dalits. Reflection of anger, usage of filth in literature will neither bring in change in the society nor honour to the literature,” adviced Dr Inoch.The state government whip and Jashuva Kala peetham chairman Dokka Manikyavaraprasad said that the state government had granted Rs.1 crore for renovation of the Jashava memorial and Rs.2 crore for construction of an auditorium in the name of Gurram Jashava. He said that they would ready the songs in digital form by next year. Former law university registrar Dr A Subramanyam, noted writer Patibandla Ananda Rao, Kalapeetham secretary Dr Elisha were also present.
