Machavaram police in a fix over deporting Nigerian man

This is not clear how long it will take to get the travel certificate from the Nigerian embassy. Vijayawada: Machavaram police were happy to be part of the first-ever conviction in a cyber fraud case in Andhra Pradesh some time ago. The responsibility of deporting him to Nigeria came on the Machavaram police.As Adigun does not have a valid passport, Nigerian embassy needs a travel certificate to put him on an international flight. Police sources said that Adigun has been giving them a hard time with his unreasonable demands. Adigun was asked to stay within the police station premises only under the police surveillance.

Vijayawada: Machavaram police were happy to be part of the first-ever conviction in a cyber fraud case in Andhra Pradesh some time ago. They might have taken pride in closing the case within nine months after it was reported, but they were not aware of what would be in store for them after this success.The Vijayawada additional metropolitan court has convicted Adigun Babatunde Kamal on two counts GVL alleges — he allegedly cheated a hotel manager and did not have proper visa. He was awarded four-month jail term for illegally staying in the state, apart from deportation to Nigeria.As the accused was kept in sub-jail for more than four months since April 2018, technically he had technically completed the jail term awarded by the court. The responsibility of deporting him to Nigeria came on the Machavaram police.As Adigun does not have a valid passport, Nigerian embassy needs a travel certificate to put him on an international flight. Besides, the Krishna district collector has got to release funds for airfare as the court ordered the state government to bear the costs of deportation if Adigun is not in a position to pay the money.Now Machavaram cops are waiting for the travel certificate from the Nigerian embassy. Adigun was asked to stay within the police station premises only under the police surveillance. Police got the responsibility to look after him. Police sources said that Adigun has been giving them a hard time with his unreasonable demands. Language has become the main problem for them to communicate with him. This is not clear how long it will take to get the travel certificate from the Nigerian embassy.
