Vijayawada: Some posts on social media that went viral, claiming that an engineering student was gang-raped in a lodge, created a flutter at Ibrahimpatnam in Krishna district on Tuesday.The posts said the girl befriended a man on Facebook who later raped her along with two of his friends. However, police confirmed that neither any complaint was lodged nor any case registered over the incident.Ibrahimpatnam inspector V Pavan Kishore said they learnt about the matter through the media and added that nobody has come forward to lodge a complaint. “As the matter is serious in nature, we have verified all the details at KVR Grand Lodge where the gang-rape was alleged to have happened,” Pavan Kishore said.According to the police, the girl, a third year B Tech student of a private college, befriended a person named Manikanth on Facebook and they decided to meet at the lodge where he had booked a room. His two friends were also reportedly booked into another room of the same lodge.The posts that went viral on social media alleged that Manikanth and his two friends raped the girl and filmed the entire incident. Pavan Kishore told TOI that they have spoken to the girl who refused the allegation of gang rape. “She told us that the man tried to make sexual advancements which she resisted and left the room. We shall verify all the facts and take stringent action if the girl is found to be threatened with dire consequences,” he said.
