Vijayawada airport notified as International

VIJAYAWADA: Years of wait for international travelers of Vijayawada ended with Vijayawada airport getting notified as international by Customs on Thursday. First international aircraft from Vijayawada will have 180 seats (A 320 type) will depart from Vijayawada at 6.20 pm. The standoff between Airport Authority of India and the Customs is resolved. First international flight from Vijayawada will take off on October 25. The issue got resolved after Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu shot off letter to civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu requesting him to resolve the standoff.

VIJAYAWADA: Years of wait for international travelers of Vijayawada ended with Vijayawada airport getting notified as international by Customs on Thursday. The standoff between Airport Authority of India and the Customs is resolved. First international flight from Vijayawada will take off on October 25. Twice a week service will be operated by IndiGo with the support of viability gap funding provided by Andhra Pradesh government.The stalemate was due to rule introduced in 2009 where the Customs wing management payments have to be dealt by Airports Authority of India (AAI). The issue got resolved after Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu shot off letter to civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu requesting him to resolve the standoff.
