GUNTUR: Income Tax sleuths conducted surprise checks on properties belonging to senior TDP leader Kovelamudi Ravindra in Guntur town on wee hours of Monday morning. The inspection come just two days after CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu addressed the media in Delhi claiming that his party and its leaders were being ‘unfairly’ targeted by the centre through the income tax department.According to TDP sources, I-T sleuths began the checks at 4 am in the morning that continued till late in the evening. Sleuths raided Ravindra’s offices and residence. Sources from the I-T department said that it was simply an inquiry and not a raid as such. They were examining the leader's accounts as he had been in the radar for alleged tax evasions for a while now, they said.The TDP leader owned petrol filling stations at various places in the state and is also the current secretary of LVR club. “We are taking his statements and if required further action would be initiated. We are studying his income and looking into his tax compliance,” an I-T official told TOI.They said they had only checked his accounts and tax returns to ascertain if there was any undisclosed income and then further questions or show cause notices would be issued if required.
