Polavaram oustees get addl Rs 245 crore

VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had announced Rs 245.53 crore additional package for the rehabilitation and resettlement of the Polavaram project displaced families. The government would pay Rs 50,000 to each family towards shifting charges. The STs would get Rs 50,000 grant for the first 12 months in addition to the Rs 5 lakh compensation. The government is constructing 74 colonies for these displaced families of which 26 were completed and the 48 are in progress.The government would pay Rs 5 lakh compensation to each family besides Rs 36,000 grant for first 12 months. This amount is in addition to the package already being implemented.The chief minister, during his review of the works on Monday, said that the government was ready to pay an additional Rs 50,000 to each of the non-tribal families.

The government is paying Rs 75,000 to the tribal families and this would be in addition to the Rs 3 lakh paid to each of the houses for the displaced families.The new decision would put an additional Rs 245.53 crore financial burden on state exchequer and benefit 49,106 non-tribal families.The government had identified 167 villages in East Godavari and 55 villages in West Godavari district which are to be replaced and resettled in the project. There are 1,05,601 families to receive the rehabilitation and resettlement benefit under the project. The government is constructing 74 colonies for these displaced families of which 26 were completed and the 48 are in progress.The government would pay Rs 5 lakh compensation to each family besides Rs 36,000 grant for first 12 months. The STs would get Rs 50,000 grant for the first 12 months in addition to the Rs 5 lakh compensation. The government would pay Rs 50,000 to each family towards shifting charges.
