Chandrababu Naidu in TDP telecon: Alliance with Congress is a necessity

VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday called upon the rank and file of the TDP to create awareness among the people about the ‘historical necessity’ that forced the party to forge alliance with the Congress.Speaking to TDP leaders in a teleconference, Chandrababu Naidu said that the time had come for the people to defeat the BJP and send prime minister Narendra Modi home for ‘destroying’ the democratic institutions in the country. He also wanted party leaders and the cadre to remember how Modi had betrayed the populace by denying special category status and bifurcation benefits to the state of Andhra Pradesh.“Democracy in the country is in danger now. Every institution is being destroyed by the central government. It is time we woke up and set things in order. We are trying to protect the country from the Gujarat team,” Chandrababu Naidu said. Besides saving the interests of the nation, the TDP had the responsibility to protect the interests of Andhra Pradesh, he added.“We aligned with the BJP in 2014 in the larger interests of the nation and the state. But, the BJP betrayed us. We kept on waiting for four years and finally realised the betrayal and moved away fighting for our rights. Today, the situation in the country is grave. There is corruption and there is unrest in the country. Democratic institutions are being destroyed. It is our responsibility to save the nation,” Naidu asserted.“Now, I have taken up the responsibility to protect the nation from destruction. The whole nation is watching now. People are aware of the destruction of democracy by the Modi government,” AP chief minister added.Chandrababu Naidu asked the party leaders to take up campaign across AP and explain to the people the historical necessity that forced the TDP to align with the Congress. “Create awareness among people.
