Shelter home superintendent who raped girl for 4 years held

"The incident came to light after the girl was recently shifted from Tirupati to another shelter home in Kadapa on October 27. When the Kadapa child protection committee chairperson, G Sivakamini, visited the home, she found the girl depressed. When she tried to resist, Nandagopal used to beat her up, and threaten to kill her. The girl was produced before the district collector, and sent for medical examination. Women activists staged protests at the home in Tirupati demanding stern action against the accused.

TIRUPATI: A superintendent accused of repeatedly raping a 16-year-old minor girl for almost four years at a state-run home for girls in Tirupati , was nabbed by the urban police wing on Monday.B Nandagopa who has been the superintendent of the government-run home that shelters close to 150 girls below the age of 18, has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act, by the Tirupati urban police.In her complaint, the survivor alleged that the superintendent used to call her to his office room often, and sexually abuse her. When she tried to resist, Nandagopal used to beat her up, and threaten to kill her. She also alleged that the accused used to sexually abuse other girls at the home, and took precautionary measures to avoid pregnancy.Tirupati SP KKN Anburajan, said ''The accused was taken into custody by the police on Monday. Based on the statement of the victim/complainant, action was taken immediately and further investigation is on."The incident came to light after the girl was recently shifted from Tirupati to another shelter home in Kadapa on October 27. The girl was produced before the district collector, and sent for medical examination. A complaint was lodged at the Chinna Chowk police station in Kadapa.The girl was admitted to the Kadapa shelter home when she was 12 after her mother died, and as her father was serving a jail sentence. She was shifted to the Tirupati home in 2014, and was staying there till last month before she was shifted back to another home in Kadapa.Juvenile welfare department has suspended superintendent Nandagopal, and ordered a parallel inquiry. Women activists staged protests at the home in Tirupati demanding stern action against the accused.
