14-year-old killed after bird hunter misses target

VIJAYAWADA: A 14-year-old boy lost his life after a bird hunter missed his shot at Seridintakurru village under Gudivada rural mandal in Krishna district on Saturday. However, he fired upon the birds before the boy moved away ending up shooting the boy him in the head. On Saturday, Chinna had already given the youths two birds that he had hunted in the morning. The deceased boy has been identified as Ch Karunanidhi, studying 8th standard in government school at Siddantam.

VIJAYAWADA: A 14-year-old boy lost his life after a bird hunter missed his shot at Seridintakurru village under Gudivada rural mandal in Krishna district on Saturday. The deceased boy has been identified as Ch Karunanidhi, studying 8th standard in government school at Siddantam. Karunanidhi died on the spot after the bullet which was fired to kill the birds over a fish tank hit him.According to Gudivada DSP, P Mahesh, Chinna (22) hailing from Karnataka was employed by the fish tank owners about one and half months back to guard the tank and scare away the birds which caught the fishes from the tank.Chinna had a country made weapon with which he used to hunt the birds.According to DSP Mahesh, Chinna would give away the killed birds to the local youths for cooking and eating. On Saturday, Chinna had already given the youths two birds that he had hunted in the morning. During the afternoon, Karunanidhi along with his friends went near the fish tank while his parents were working in the fields. But soon another flock of birds landed on the tank.Chinna aiming at the birds asked Karunanidhi to move away from the firing range as he took the shot. However, he fired upon the birds before the boy moved away ending up shooting the boy him in the head. Karunanidhi collapsed after the bullet hit him in the head and died on the spot while Chinna ran away from the scene leaving the gun behind, Mahesh further added."It is a regular practice for the fish tank owners to employ people to guard the tanks but would use air pistols that produce huge noise to scare away the birds. It is illegal to use firearms to hunt the birds. We are investigating from where the country made weapon was procured and have booked a case under Arms Act against Chinna and a special team is on the lookout to nab him" he said.
