'Protect assets of religious organisations’

Though there were laws to look after Hindu and Muslim religious properties, there is no separate law to regulate Christian properties. Kalidas Rangarao, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in CID, said those who were at the helm of affairs in religious bodies are involved in swindling of funds. VIJAYAWADA: A separate and stringent law is needed to protect religious properties irrespective of their religion, say legal experts.Though there are laws like Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act 1951 and Wakf Act 1954, their implementation is very poor as a series of scams have come out related to misuse of endowment and Waqf properties.The recent cases of Archbishop Dyvasirvadam in Vijayawada and Kadapa bishop G Prasad are only the tip of the iceberg.
