He said that unrest in the farming community was growing under BJP rule across the country as the Centre had turned deaf to the grievances of the ryoths.Addressing a seminar here on Wednesday, Viju Krishnan said that the newly introduced Fasal Bima Yojana had completely failed to rescue the farmers from the troubles. He alleged that the crop insurance scheme was revised to help the private insurance firms but not the farmers. He said that Modi government’s promises to increase the minimum support prices of the crops too remained hallow as the farmers could not get even the cost of production.Krishnan criticized the Centre for allowing the state governments to acquire the agriculture lands at their will by making amendments to the old Act. “The massive extents of lands were acquired by offering throw away prices. This has pushed millions of farmers families into more troubles,” Krishnan charged.He said that BJP leaders making sarcastic comments on the farmers' woes had further hurt the feelings of the ryoths prompting them to vote against the BJP led state governments. He said that farmers organisations would extend their support to the All India Trade Unions bandh in January in order to exert pressure on the government to resolve the grievances of the farming community.CPM leader V Srinivasa Rao said that about 10 lakh acres of agriculture land was converted to non-agriculture needs in AP in the last four and half years. He found fault with the state government for being keen to handover the agriculture land to the corporate firms.
