AP govt too mulls 10% EBC reservation

Once the rules are prepared and cleared by the state cabinet, a Bill will be introduced in the assembly. Incidentally, the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had supported the quota bill in Parliament, though it had criticised the BJP-led central government for turning down AP government’s plea to clear quota for Kapus.Sources said that with the general elections a few months away, the state will come out with the 10% quota rules at the earliest. VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government is framing rules for implementation of 10% reservations for economically backward sections in the general category.The central government last week amended the Constitution to make a provision for 10% quota in jobs and educational institutions for the economically backward sections among forward classes.Consequent on the Centre making the legislation, state governments should make their own rules to implement the quota in state government jobs and local educational institutions.According to sources, the AP government is framing rules to implement the new quota in the state.
