VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s daylong ‘deeksha’ in New Delhi has received mixed reaction from political parties in the state. While main opposition YSRC described the CM’s fight for special category status as a “political drama”, Congress and Left parties stood by him.Actor Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena, however, has preferred to remain silent. Several public organisations supported Naidu’s demand that the Centre grant special status to AP, which suffered heavily due to its bifurcation in June 2014.YSRC chief Jaganmohan Reddy said people will not believe Naidu as he was in “honeymoon” with the BJP for four years. He dubbed the ‘deeksha’ as a political drama and a fake narrative. “It exposes Naidu’s politics of opportunism,” Jagan alleged. “The build-up and premise of his narrative for Delhi deeksha is fake and filled with opportunist overtures.”Jagan, who is currently touring the Rayalaseema region, meeting intellectuals and politically neutral leaders, said when Naidu was part of the BJP-led NDA coalition, he did raised the issue of special category status. “He used to condemn and undermine the very same issue for which he is protesting now in Delhi. This is raw opportunism which has been exposed in the streets of Delhi. Naidu’s image has plummeted to a new low back home,” Jagan added. The CPI and CPM, while supporting Naidu, did not join hands with TDP for the Delhi protest. The Congress, too, held its protest separately without aligning with the TDP. APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy said the Congress will organise a yatra for special category status from February 19 to March 3, covering 25 Lok Sabha and 64 assembly constituencies spread over 13 districts. “We will organise 64 meetings during the yatra,” he said. The Jana Sena seems to be following a wait and watch policy. The party did not organise any protests for SCS, but it also did not support or oppose Naidu’s ‘deeksha’.
