Vijayawada: In a major development in the Jyothi murder case, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao suspended Mangalagiri rural CI Balaji for dereliction of duties in the investigation on Thursday. The decision comes after family members protested claiming the cops were ‘deliberately’ misdirecting their investigation to a different direction. It is not appropriate to keep interrogating the family members alone. We will take the cognisance of the complainant’s suspicions and investigate in all possible directions in the case,” Lakshminarayana said while addressing to the protesting family members. After Lakshminarayana calmed the family members down by taking cognizance of their requests, he said that they would interrogate Srinivas as well.

Vijayawada: In a major development in the Jyothi murder case, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao suspended Mangalagiri rural CI Balaji for dereliction of duties in the investigation on Thursday. Addressing the media, additional superintendent of police (Guntur Urban) Lakshminarayana announced that they would conduct a re-postmortem on the murder victim, Angadi Jyothi (25).Cops have already recovered the body from the cremation site and sent it to Guntur Government General Hospital. The decision comes after family members protested claiming the cops were ‘deliberately’ misdirecting their investigation to a different direction. They also cited that instead of taking the necessary evidence from the body, cops were asking the family members for her belongings to collect fingerprints.Speaking to TOI, Vijaya Rao said that they are waiting for Jyothi's boyfriend Chenchu Srinivas to recover as he stands as the key witness in the case. Srinivas, is still recovering from the injuries that he suffered from the attack before Jyothi was killed as cops claim that he is still not ‘in a position to talk’. Post-mortem did take place on Monday evening but the family members accused the cops of taking their own sweet time in executing the procedures.“They have been expressing suspicions on the victim’s (Jyothi) family members. It is not appropriate to keep interrogating the family members alone. If they think that this is a case of honour killing, then they are sadly mistaken,” Prabhakar, Jyothi’s brother said. After Lakshminarayana calmed the family members down by taking cognizance of their requests, he said that they would interrogate Srinivas as well. Meanwhile, the family members are accusing Srinivas of hatching a conspiracy and suspecting that he must have injured himself to play the victim card.“Please don’t hold suspicions on the probe. We will take the cognisance of the complainant’s suspicions and investigate in all possible directions in the case,” Lakshminarayana said while addressing to the protesting family members.
