Releasing soon: TTD’s first-ever coffee table book

Tirupati: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams TTD), ), which administers the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala, plans to come out with its first-ever coffee table book soon. The TTD plans to release it in May-June this year with at least 10,000 copies in the first print. The pictures will give glimpses of the transformation of the shrine into a world-class pilgrim centre through the ages. Also mentioned will be the association of Acharya Purushas, Udayavar and saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharya with the Tirumala temple.“The devotees/readers can traverse back into the history of the temple through the rare photographs retrieved from the TTD archives. There will also be around 150 photographs showcasing the pomp and splendour of the various annual festivals at Tirumala like Srivari Brahmotsavams, Vaikunta Ekadasi and Radhasapthami,” Ramanan told TOI.Ramanan and Vrinda are now working on giving finishing touches to the book’s design and layout.

The collector’s item will highlight the glory and splendour of the ‘Lord of the Seven Hills’ Confirming the development to TOI, the temple body’s EO Anil Kumar Singhal said the exercise to bring out TTD’s first official coffee table book was put in motion about a year ago during his visit to the famous Srirangam temple in Tamil Nadu last year.“I was impressed with their coffee table book and felt that the TTD too should bring out something similar to showcase the legacy and riches of Lord Venkateswara and his sacred abode Tirumala,” said Singhal.“As the Tirumala temple is one of the most iconic places in the country, we shall try to ensure that the collector’s item finds a special place at Rastrapathi Bhavan, Prime Minister’s office, Raj Bhavans, state assemblies, and all Indian embassies across the globe after its launch,” he added.J Ramanan, an architect and photographer, and his wife Vrinda Ramanan are the ones who have been entrusted the task. The couple has been spending time on and off at Tirumala for almost an year now and say the stupendous task of capturing the legacy of the Lord in all His glory and splendour is almost complete.Ramanan said the book, a voluminous compilation of over 250 pages, will be a treasure trove of all information pertaining to the history and legends related to Tirumala, which is also known as ‘Kaliyuga Vaikuntam’ (heavenly abode on earth).The contribution of Azhwars, considered the 12 supreme devotees of Lord Vishnu who were instrumental in popularising Vaishnavism during the 5th-8th centuries AD, finds a special place in the book.
