Eluru: YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday promised 50 per cent quota for backward classes in all government nominated posts, statutory status for BC sub-plan in state budget and allocation of Rs 15,000 crore per year in the budget for BC welfare.Describing BCs as the backbone of society, Jagan promised to give 50 per cent of all government contract jobs to BC youths. “BCs are not backward castes. They are the guardians of our nation’s glorious culture. BC stands for Backbone Class ,” Jagan said to a thunderous applause. Jagan’s public meeting comes close on the heels of a mega public rally held by chief minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu in Rajahmundry. The two leaders chose the Godavari districts to address the issues faced by backward classes. Incidentally, the party that wins most seats in the two Godavari districts always comes to power in AP.Jagan promised to back all his pre-election promises by legislation once the YSRC forms the government after the hustings. He regretted that BCs have been “kept away” from the development process in the state after the TDP came to power.“When our government comes to power with your blessings, we will set up a BC commission and spend Rs 75,000 crore for five years for BC welfare, besides providing 50% reservations in all nominated posts and contract works, setting up of a study committee for further classification of the BCs as they are the backbone of the society. BCs have been kept away from the development process by the Chandrababu Naidu government in the last four years and nine months,” Jagan said.He said Naidu is a ‘copycat’, who has been doling out promise after promise just before elections, only to break them as he had done after the 2014 elections. Naidu made 119 assurances in his manifesto but did not fulfil even one. Such people should be rejected, Jagan said.“We have seen Naidu threatening BCs when they questioned him on the TDP going back on its promises. Naidu follows the principle of use and throw. I have the feedback of the study committee report and the experience of interacting with all sections during my padayatra, which is the basis of the BC Declaration,” he said.Jagan further announced that if elected to power, he would include BCs in the development process by setting up over 139 corporations to finance them. “What all assurances we give, from sub-plan to quota in nominated posts to allocation of funds and categorisation, we will do it on the basis of legislations, unlike Chandrababu Naidu, who speaks through his hat,” he said.“Women in the age group of 45-60 years will be given Rs 75,000 as YSR Cheyutha in four instalments, and fees reimbursement, Amma Vodi, decentralisation of administration through village secretariat and village volunteers, who will ensure that all welfare schemes come to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries,” he further added.
